After a gap of two years ‘Bhimthadi Jatra’ is back with rustic rural flavours to delight Punekars . The annual carnival is being held at Argicultural College Sinchan Nagar Ground from 22 Dec to 26 Dec 2021 albeit with some restrictions. Entry will be only for those who have been fully vaccinated and visitors will have to carry ID cards and vaccination certificate . Organised by Sharda Mahila Trust and Agricultural Development Trust Baramati the rural fair engages visitors with handicrafts , events displaying rural traditions and culinary spread with rural delicacies . This year there are more than 200 stalls with many new women entrepreneurs getting access to this rural platform.
This year some of the popular dishes on display are masswadi , thalipeeth ,Pithla Bhakri – along with hirvi mirchi thecha , kachori, gaavran masala chicken thali , chicken fry , aalni chicken along with jwari bhakri , various fish dishes , jalebi etc. Thandai Paan, Keshar Paan are the perfect way to sign off . With the world increasing getting health conscious the focus is on Millets and organic foods .
Organiser Sunanda Pawar said that the pandemic has taken a toll of livelihood of many people in rural areas. It is important to encourage rural women entrepreneurs who have suffered heavy losses. What ‘Bhimthadi Jatra’ brings to the table is connectivity and confidence – connectivity with the customers and confidence that builds up by doing business with them. Post the fair the women get orders from visitors for small and big functions.
While the ground offers a lot of open spaces which makes things little easier in the backdrop of the pandemic , the organizers are requesting people to bring tiff-ins so as to encourage take away and avoid crowding near the food stalls .
